The Froiland Science Complex

Augustana's Froiland Science Complex is home to the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Exercise and Sport Science, Genetic Counseling, Mathematics, Nursing and Physics. Completed in 2016, this 125,000-square-foot facility is named in honor of Dr. Sven Froiland, a renowned scholar, WWII veteran, and a champion for the advancement of scientific research at Augustana.

Designed by SmithGroupJJR and TSP, the $35 million Froiland Science Complex features:

  • A high-fidelity nursing simulation center
  • Multiple technology-rich “classatories” – rooms mixing traditional classroom elements and laboratory components
  • State-of-the-art research areas for faculty researchers and their student collaborators in areas such as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics
  • Glass-enclosed laboratories designed to put “science on display” for all students and further enhance the culture of research that exists on campus today

Designed with the environment in mind, the facility is targeting a LEED-Silver designation.
