“Refining the Artist”
My works of art reflect issues that touch my heart and hold vast importance in my life, including: love, systemic racism, fighting against domestic violence, and my heritage and culture as a Native American woman in South Dakota. Most of my inspiration comes from my own life experiences; when faced with a roadblock, I often find myself back on track through comedy or ceremonies.
I feel a part of me goes into every work I produce. I have discovered that I am a work in progress: as I am exposed to new art methods and forms, my skills grow. Every medium that I have encountered informs the others that I work with on a daily basis. Like bronze, we all journey to go from our rough oblivion to refined perspective.
Anne-Marie C. DeMarrias is a Pre-Professional Art major from Rapid City, SD. Augustana University, class of 2020.
