Summer Arts Celebration

Community members attend the 2017 Artists of the Plains Art Show & Sale

It’s been far too long since we’ve gathered together to celebrate our regional arts community, so the Center for Western Studies at Augustana University is throwing a Summer Arts Celebration to be held July 16-18, 2021, at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls.

Fans of the Center for Western Studies’ signature art program, the Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale, will be excited to experience the fine art extravaganza they have come to expect — but with better weather! We'll be celebrating our fair city reopening and coming back to life, and some of the artists might even be found taking a break on the patio working en plein air during the event.

While the pandemic was shutting down art shows and galleries throughout the country, many artists found new ways to share their work with the world. One of the ways artists reached their audiences was to hold virtual classes, lectures, and workshops. To honor the ingenuity of this creative community, we have invited some of the artists to give presentations during the event.

Join us at the Hilton Garden Inn, 201 E. 8th Street, Sioux Falls, SD.

The hours for the event will be:

  • Friday, July 16: 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 17: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 18: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Artist Presentations:

  • Judy Thompson - Friday, July 16: 7:00 p.m.
  • Jerry Fogg - Saturday, July 17: 5:00 p.m.
  • Jessie Rasche - Sunday, July 18: 10:30 a.m.

Artists invited to participate:

Recognizing that we are not completely back to “normal,” the Center will follow CDC guidelines in asking those who have not been vaccinated to please wear a mask.

This show is a gift from the Center for Western Studies and its supporters to the artists and collectors of the Northern Plains and is free and open to the public. All staff time necessary to prepare, market, and conduct the show is underwritten by the Center’s operations budget and endowment. We could not host this show without the generosity of our donors.
