Majors, Courses and Requirements

"Those who know nothing of foreign languages know nothing of their own." Goethe

A complete list of courses provides descriptions and requirements for all French, German, MDFL, and Spanish classes offered by the Department.

Majors and Minors

Students can major or minor in French, Spanish, or Modern Foreign Languages (the MDFL major combines the study of two different world languages). During their language studies, majors have the option to assemble a senior portfolio to document and to self-assess their progress in the target language. Language majors who select this option work closely with their faculty advisor to complete the optional portfolio prior to graduation.

Whether a foreign language is your only major, or one of your majors, every student majoring in a world language is assigned a faculty advisor within the department. Your advisor will work closely with you to help you decide on classes, to keep you on track and on task in fulfilling the General education requirements, and to assist you with your study abroad, graduate school, and career choices and aspirations.
