Support staff are employees of the University who are paid on an hourly basis, eligible for overtime pay, and whose duties are primarily non-managerial in nature.

Title: Assistant Logistics Coordinator

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Logistics

Augustana University invites applications for the position of full-time Assistant  Logistics Coordinator in the Logistics Department.

As an Assistant Logistics Coordinator, you will aid in the transportation of equipment and the setting up of various meetings, events and conferences while providing logistical and technical support.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • This position provides for the physical arrangements of all events, conference and meeting activities, including the physical arrangement of tables and chairs in meeting locations throughout campus.
  • Work with the Logistics Coordinator and the requesting campus departments or relevant community members in all event related activities. Prioritize tasks as well as asses and resolve any issues relating to events, conferences or activities that may materialize during the set-up process.
  • Participate in COVID-19 related campus-wide support such as resetting classrooms.
  • Participate in the Logistics Department on-call rotation for weekend and evening work, every third week.
  • Possess requisite knowledge to utilize campus scheduling software. Training is provided.
  • Train and supervise work study students and student groups on physical and technical setups and takedowns as needed.
  • Assist with setups at locations within the community for events and activities as requested.
  • Assist with the office duties of the Logistics Department
  • Help maintain an inventory of college owned equipment.
  • Assist with music specific logistics for ensemble directors and musicians for festivals, competitions and camps as requested through and assigned by Logistics Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this position:

  • High School Diploma
  • A valid driver’s license for transporting equipment and traveling between venues
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, team lifting when possible.
  • Willingness to learn to drive a cube truck or forklift.
  • Availability and willingness to work such weekends and evenings as Augustana determines are necessary or desirable to meet business/event needs. Frequency of overtime and weekend work dependent upon schedule. Events may fall on Labor Day and Memorial Day, in which case a floating holiday would be provided.

Title: Campus Visit Coordinator

Department: Enrollment Management

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Campus Visit Coordinator. This person’s primary responsibility involves creating exceptional campus visit experiences for future Vikings.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Organizing, coordinating, and implementing campus visits for prospective students, parents, and special guests.

The position requires multi-tasking, self-motivation, high energy, resourcefulness, creativity, and a team-oriented disposition. Two years of post-secondary education is preferred. Experience in guest relations is a plus.

Title: Custodian - Day Shift

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Buildings and Grounds

Augustana University is currently recruiting for full-time day shift custodians. No previous experience is required, but helpful! As a custodian, you will play an essential role in maintaining the buildings of Augustana University, and helps support a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students, faculty and fellow staff members.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Augustana in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment; keep work areas free of hazardous conditions (i.e., grease/oil spills, sawdust, excess supplies, etc.).
  • Assure that daily cleaning schedules and procedures are followed closely, assure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times.
  • Able and willing to maintain garden beds by weeding and planting flowers
  • Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Maintain the appearance of the housekeepers work areas.
  • Minimize the waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
  • Use and handle chemicals, compounds, solvents, etc. according to OSHA established guidelines and follow all established safety and procedures and precautions.
  • Assure that established Infection Control and Universal Precautions practices are followed when performing housekeeping procedures.
  • Vacuum, dust, and clean glass surfaces.
  • Clean public restrooms, laundries, and theme houses.
  • Pick up and deliver supplies and materials.
  • Participates in solid waste removal from buildings to outside dumpsters and from outside trash cans to dumpsters.
  • Maintains the sidewalks and entrances during the winter months by shoveling and salting to ensure a campus that is safe and accessible for the community.

Qualifications:

  • Must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse populations, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community
  • High School diploma or GED

Physical Requirements of the position:

  • The ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • The ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for the duration of scheduled shift.

Title: Entry Level Account Clerk

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Business Office

Augustana University invites applications for the full-time, entry level position of Account Clerk. Normal operating hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

As an Account Clerk, you will have the opportunity to act as an afternoon cashier, a collection processor, and a general accounting clerk for accounts payable and receivable.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Process afternoon cashier journal and posting of payments.
  • Assist with preparing bills for mailing in July, December, interim, and summer.
  • Assist with 1098T distribution and answering phone calls in January.
  • Send bills to students after initial mailing on an as needed basis, as they become registered.
  • Prepare cash bags for events and send out statements on past due amounts.
  • Serve as a correspondence and communication liaison with Perkin’s loans.
  • Prepare and send Exits for Perkin’s loans as well as send out paid-in-full letters when a Perkin’s loan is paid off.
  • Determine, prepare, and send past due accounts to collection agencies.
  • Prepare and send monthly statements for AR and Day Care accounts.
  • Prepare and send (via email) semester statements for registered Veterans and Voc Rehab students to liaison officer.
  • Serve as a backup bank check scanner.
  • Prepare and send statements on past due amounts for Sioux Falls Seminary.
  • File and configure electronic receipts to ensure that documentation is accurate and includes business purpose.
  • Compile lists of missing receipts and follow up on obtaining these from employees or vendors.
  • Pay bills for university via credit card and assist in purchasing items for campus community.
  • Prepare journal entries for accounts payable corrections.
  • Assist student group representatives with budget questions and purchases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this position:

  • Some post-secondary education.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous experience with basic accounting principles is appreciated.
  • A working understanding and knowledge of higher education and non-profit sector is helpful.

Title: General Maintenance

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Buildings and Grounds

Augustana University is seeking an individual to fill the position of full-time General Maintenance. The person selected must have a broad base of knowledge in all aspects of maintenance and have the ability to maintain and repair the buildings owned by the University. The schedule will typically be day hours, Monday through Friday. Will participate in on-call hours that share responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain analyze, and repair plumbing fixtures, doors, windows, cabinets, systems, and equipment to minimize down time.
  • Perform installations, assemblies, fittings, repairs and replacements as needed.
  • Take on special landscaping and planting projects as deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Keep grounds free from trash, litter and debris.
  • Perform necessary tasks to ensure landscape is healthy and appealing. May include: spring cleanup, mulching, tree and shrub treatments, leaf removal, pruning, trimming, raking, planting, edging, aeration, seeding, and pest control. Other duties in landscaping may be assigned based on need.
  • Operate including: diesel and gas tractors with backhoe, loader or other attachments, forklift, air hammers, ditch diggers to perform various jobs such as digging trenches for electrical and sewer lines, grading, leveling, shrub and tree removal, loading /unloading, and digging post and drainage holes.
  • Perform snow removal to ensure the safety of university staff and students utilizing various snow removal tools including: front end loader, snow blowers, pick-ups with snow plows, power brooms, hand shovels, etc.
  • Builds, repairs, installs using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools including: sander, saw, and drills; or hand tools such as chisels, rasps, and saws.
  • Calculates quantity of materials needed and requisitions lumber, hardware, and other supplies.
  • Measures and marks prescribed dimensions on wooden stock using ruler, tape measures and marking pencil to guide cutting operations.
  • Maintains inventory of carpentry tools.
  • Drywall hanging, wall sheathing, backing, blocking and other rough carpentry duties as assigned.
  • Selective demolition including: removing walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, finishes, etc.
  • Maintains campus vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment.  Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to Supervisor.
  • Serves as primary key maker for Augustana University.
  • Utilizes online ticket system to analyze repair requests and troubleshoot.
  • Attends job trainings, meetings and safety programs organized by maintenance department.
  • Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions.

Qualifications:

  • Licenses: South Dakota driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Education: trade or vocational school with courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, carpentry or wood working.
  • At least one year of skilled carpentry experience along with prior experience in general maintenance/construction. Must have a background in maintenance operations of commercial properties.
  • Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic carpentry, HVAC, plumbing and maintenance concepts.
  • Prior experience working with blueprints and using hand and power tools.
  • On call responsibility: Must share on-call duties of the department.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of welding including: arc, aluminum, acetylene, wire-feed and plasma welding as well as basic soldering and brazing.
  • Previous experience operating heavy machinery and equipment a plus.
  • Prior experience in a higher education setting is preferred.

Title: Gift Processing Coordinator

Position Type: Full-Time

As a Gift Processing Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to process all charitable gifts such as: cash, stock, multi-year pledges and deferred gifts.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Process, record and reconcile all gifts and ensure timely and accurate donor acknowledgement.
  • Supervise the accurate processing of checks, credit cards, online gifts and electronic funds transfers for all gifts, including gift-in-kind and stock transfers.
  • Create and manage planned gifts.
  • Reconcile and prepare batches for daily deposit.
  • Coordinate with department leadership to ensure accurate processing and financial integrity of gifts as well as address technical problems or adjustments.
  • Coordinate monthly employee payroll, recurring credit card and automated clearing house gifts.
  • Process special handling of non-routine deposits.
  • Record donors’ pledges and maintain campaign pledge files.
  • Track outstanding pledges, produce pledge reminder letters to donors, and report as appropriate. 
  • Adjust gifts and pledges as directed by department leadership and in collaboration with the gift officers.
  • Process and track all matching and Thrivent Choice program gifts to the university.
  • Update biographical data as provided by donor information on checks and/or correspondence.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all gifts given to the university.
  • Work with campus fundraising entities (Athletics, Library, Center for Western Studies, et. al.) to ensure consistent processing and receipting of all gifts.

Title: Graduate Program Coordinator

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Business Administration

Augustana University invites applications for the full-time position of Graduate Program Coordinator for the Business Administration and Accounting Department. Normal operating hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

As the Graduate Program Coordinator, you will provide administrative support primarily to the Business Administration and Accounting Department (BSAD) graduate programs, and secondarily to the BSAD undergraduate programs. This position is also responsible for coordinating activities related to department and program operations in close collaboration with the Program Directors of each BSAD graduate program, and with multiple internal and external constituents to assure effective and efficient program operations.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide professional, friendly and efficient service to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other professionals to result in optimum service and relationships with various constituencies.
  • Supervise accurate and efficient organizational systems.
  • Compose correspondence requiring extensive knowledge and understanding of programs.
  • Coordinate admission processes and tracks student progression.
  • Provide program information to prospective students.
  • Track program data, such as undergraduate to graduate transitions using GPA or other criteria.
  • Conduct initial reviews of potential transfer credit.
  • Generate and advise graduate students with their Plans of Study.
  • Serve as a liaison between BSAD and the Office of Graduate Education.
  • Design and maintain databases, repositories, and records.
  • Update and maintain official records and documents, including Program Handbooks.
  • Gather department syllabi at the beginning of each term.
  • Register students for classes.
  • Collaborate with various offices/entities around campus to support students (Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, Business Office, Library, IT, and Bookstore).

  • Aid in the onboarding of new adjunct faculty.
  • Support the logistics of adjunct faculty appointment process.
  • Assist in coordinating recruitment and outreach events.
  • Coordinate preparation of periodic newsletters or other correspondence to program alumni and friends.
  • Assist with maintaining program operating budgets.
  • Provide clerical support to other BSAD faculty as time permits.

Title: Operations Coordinator

Position Type: Part-Time

Department: International Programs Office

Augustana University invites applications for the position of part-time Operations Coordinator in the International Programs Office. The position will average 20-24-hours per week and occasionally requires evening and weekend hours for special events. The schedule is flexible, but typical hours might be 8 am-1 pm or 12-5 pm Monday through Friday.

The Operations Coordinator will support students and International Programs Office staff in the areas of study away, international student advising, inbound customized programs compliance, event planning, database management, and welcome/reception duties for the office.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide professional, friendly, and efficient service to students, alumni, faculty, staff, visitors, and international guests to result in optimum service and relationships with various constituencies;
  • Provide administrative/clerical support resulting in accurate and timely results while maintaining a professional and friendly image for the University;
  • Order, purchase and inventory office supplies and equipment to ensure sufficient quantities for divisional and several departmental needs;
  • Assist with mentorship and supervision of student assistants assigned to the office;
  • Establish and maintain an accurate and efficient filing system;
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and security related activities;
  • Coordinate and assist with arrangements for various special projects and events sponsored by the IPO;
  • Provide support to students and faculty in aspects of international travel; and
  • Work with a diverse student population, staff, community and network of partners in international education.

Demonstrated experience and ability to relate well to students, scholars, faculty, staff, and those from diverse cultural and education backgrounds is essential. The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the university’s students.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Patrol campus in vehicles and on foot in all weather conditions. Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of students, faculty, staff and visitors to guard against illegal or threatening activities, theft and to maintain security of premises.
  • Observe and detect any criminal activity and/or violations of the University’s rules and regulations, as well as city, state and federal laws.
  • Conduct investigations of incidents, including interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence
  • Complete detailed and accurate reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, surveillance activities, and witness interviews.
  • Respond to unusual circumstances and secure emergency aid when needed, with moderate discretion for independent judgement.
  • Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures, restraining trespassers and reporting building and facility related issues such as flooding, poor or faulty lighting, trip hazards, etc.
  • Communicate with the Sioux Falls Police Department, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Paramedics Plus, Metro Communications and other Federal, State, County and local Law Enforcement agencies that provide for public safety in the immediate surrounding areas.
  • Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information to community members.
  • Take emergency and routine calls for service, record the details of the calls, dispatch appropriate security resources (local police, fire, EMS, etc.) and provide details to those responding.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to University visitors, callers, other agencies, and vendors.

Qualifications for this position:

  • Must possess a valid South Dakota Driver License or a valid Driver License of another state and can obtain a South Dakota Driver License.
  • High School Diploma necessary. Prior military, law enforcement or security experience or training preferred, but not required.  
  • Must be able to become certified in the use of an ASP baton, chemical spray, first responder emergency medical services to include the use of CPR and an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
  • Designated as an “essential employee”, the Officer may be required to remain on duty beyond normal shift and/or be available on a 24-hour basis to report for duty without prior notice due to emergencies or manpower shortages.

Title: Preschool Assistant Teacher

Augustana University invites applications for the position of full-time Preschool Assistant Teacher.

An assistant teacher implements curriculum and care of children ages one thru five as designated by the head teacher.  An assistant communicates with children and families in a positive manner.  The duties include greeting parents and children as they come in the door, writing down the time of arrival on the class list, and making sure that the parents sign out their children before they leave for the day.  There are other record keeping duties which may include the weighing of food and serving the proper amount of breakfast, lunch or snack to the children, as well as recording which children ate each meal.

It is most important that the teachers and their assistants are positive role models for both the Augustana students and the young children at the center.  The assistant must use positive reinforcement when working with children throughout the day.  An assistant will be responsible for assisting in the supervision of the Augustana student’s fulfillment of duties. 

This position requires a caring person who enjoys children and who is excited about learning as well as teaching.  A high school diploma with experience in child care is required, and a degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood is desired.  This is a twelve month position with 40 hours a week expected.  Twenty hours of training are required every year.  In house and online training opportunities are provided by the Director of CLC.

Title: UWC First Impression and MSAT Program Coordinator

Augustana University invites applications for the position of part-time UWC First Impression and MSAT Program Coordinator. This shared position offers 25 hours per week, operates August 1st through May 31st, and has a typical schedule of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

As a First Impressions Coordinator in the University Welcome Center, you will provide administrative support for the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Admission, serving as the first line of communication for enrollment services. This role also includes greeting and welcoming guests for all Augustana services housed in the University Welcome Center.  You will also provide administrative support to the Master of Science in Athletic Training program by coordinating activities in close collaboration with Program Leadership and internal and external constituents to assure effective and efficient program operations.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner - both on a daily basis and at enrollment events throughout the year.
  • Answer and direct calls and visitors to the appropriate person or office.
  • Assist in coordinating calendars of office staff.
  • Stay up to speed on services available to students across campus with the ability to positively engage with the student to determine their needs.
  • Provide clerical support for office staff, predominately the visit experience team
  • Respond to email correspondence from students and families.
  • Run reports and access data in shared database.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to student and family information.
  • Office duties to be performed in a co-worker’s absence include: scheduling and coordinating individual campus visits, organizing and executing virtual visits and managing and reconciling outside/private scholarships.
  • Assist program leadership with management of the accredited athletic training program.
  • Assist with student software (ATrack) to manage students’ clinical training records.
  • Maintain students’ academic records for the purposes of accreditation.
  • Assist the Assistant Program Directors with coordination of student placements in clinics, including assisting with affiliation agreements, block schedules, and onboarding.
  • Administer didactic course evaluations.
  • In collaboration with Program Leadership, assure the program meets the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) standards; assist with preparation of CAATE accreditation self-studies and reports.
  • Update and maintain official documents, including the program’s student handbook.
  • Assist in the admission and recruiting of students.
  • Monitor program’s website.
  • Work with internal parties on the program’s online application and applications in process.
  • Work with the Office of Graduate Education regarding applications.
  • Compile applicant data for the application review process.
  • Provide general office support in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner to result in in optimum service and relationships with various constituencies.
  • Assist with the program’s finances, including, but not limited to, assisting with program orders and expenditures, reconciling purchase card reports, maintaining a current program budget, and working with internal constituents, such as the Business Office on financial transfers.
  • Facilitate the logistics of adjunct faculty appointment process for part-time faculty, clinical training supervisors, graduate research project committee members, and other individuals who meet the criteria.
  • Supervise accurate and efficient organizational systems.
  • Serves as liaison to and maintenance of BOC materials, EAP’s, Clinical Preceptors and Affiliated Sites information.
  • Clerical support for the marketing and promotion of the ATP program to include the web site, recruitment packets, Elmen bulletin board, history of program and promotional materials.

The Augustana University Campus Learning Center is currently recruiting for Substitute Head Teachers. These positions could occur in classrooms for children 1- to 3-year olds or in classrooms for 3- to 6-year-olds.

The Campus Learning Center is open from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A teaching position could be for a five-hour or eight-hour shift, and could be for one day or several days in a row.
